| DOVER BEACH HOUSE | ||||
Over the last 15 years Port Dover has become a much sought after place to live and develop due to its proximity to Lake Erie and the very Green Norfolk County. The Dover Beach House in the small fishing village of Port Dover on the Gold Coast of Ontario was a typical 1922 two storey cedar frame style home. The owners have transformed the home into a open and cheery beach house, comfortable and cozy for relaxing or entertaining. Windows can be a room's biggest asset. They give access to the heat of the sun, protect us from the winter cold, and present a view of the world beyond. Perhaps most importantly, they let in the light in all its variety, be it a natural wash of energizing sunshine, filtered and diffused with translucent fabrics, or light dramatically shaded with blinds, screens, and opaque materials. Without windows, life would be glum and gloomy affair and our houses bereft of atmosphere. A former small attic window cascades light into the theater-like setting, with crisp white walls and ceilings that cloister the purity of Port Dover. Below the up lighted vaulted ceiling are four glazed windows that wrap the room, each with their own unique trim that is carved out in plaster, each of piece of art, each different but all similar. Unique to it are the different work spaces it provides for the owner. |

The first floor flows from the front door through French glass doors into the expanse of the living room and into the kitchen, all fresh white stone plaster and cedar. Stone blocks trim and pillars that become an integral theme throughout the house reflecting a minimalist 21st Mayan structure. The cedar strip floors have been restored, bouncing light back up through a high gloss finish. The hearty fireplace, built with white stone plaster and trimmed with cedar block dominate the south wall, yet is unobtrusive, like a warm friendly giant.
